WORLD’S HIGHEST INFO CENTRE ESTABLISHED IN LOGAN LAKE

 February 2,  1990  - Jim Wiewior drove the 2 ton haul truck into town with former Yale Lillooet MLA Jim Rabbit as his passenger.  The shovel which houses the Info Centre was hauled to town in 1991

Logan Lake Milestones

November 10, 1970  Logan Lake was incorporated as a village with Lornex Mine official,  JOHN  ALDRICH, appointed mayor.
August of 1971 The first families moved into site-built homes and the elementary school was ready for use that September.
1972

 The Ranch and Country Club was established and the first ever Polar Carnival was held in what is now MARIE KING  Memorial (Cenotaph) Park in 1973.
Village foreman BILL MAGGS was the moving force behind the establishment of the above, and Central Park was renamed in his honour in March, 1987. 

FEBRUARY 16, 1976 RECREATION CENTRE officially opened.
1977 Logan Lake's first female mayor MARIE KING was elected. 
December 1979 - Logan Lake's  FIRST FREEMAN  Joe Moss - manager of the first grocery store, alderman and gardener was appointed. 

80'S BROUGHT MANY CHANGES

including the opening of Highmont Mining Corporation a population boom and the opening of Logan Lake Secondary School in 1981. 
1982

Logan Lake’s status changed from village to district to collect more taxes.

 

April 1986 BIG CHANGE came when a boundary expansion allowed Logan Lake to grow to 32,320 hectares from the golf course to the Thompson River.
October 1984 The Diagnostic and Treatment Centre officially opened.
NOVEMBER, 1984 Television viewing underwent a major change after the November referendum which allowed collection of fees through taxes.
1984 was also the year of Logan Lake’s one and only Mining Festival and Highmont announced it’s impending closure that September - sending the community into an economic slump.
1986 What is now the municipal campground was first established by the Highland Valley Outdoor Association.  One of many grant funded project the club undertook to provide youth employment and community assets such as the walking path and the Ducks Unlimited Sanctuary.  The campground has since been upgraded and Logan Lake Info-Centre staff took over its operation in 1994.
Logan Lake Y was established as a satellite of the Kamloops Y.
 
REALLY BIG NEWS OF THE YEAR - The partnership that is Highland Valley Copper was formed.
1987 The Highland Valley Outdoor Association received official designation for the ski trails. 
NOVEMBER 22, 1988 A BCTV news story on Logan Lake started retirees moving here. 
1989 Logan Lake chosen “COMMUNITY OF THE YEAR" by the Economic Development Association of BC.
Meadow Creek Golf Course opened.

90's FILLED WITH CONTROVERSY & GROWTH

The 1990's started with a bang when CIBC threatened to close Logan Lake’s only bank.  The closure was averted when over 200 residents rallied to keep it open January 15.

JUNE 1994  SENIORS CENTRE OPENS
March 28, 2000 The lake walkway was lit-up
JANUARY  2001 Logan Lake WHY Society was born.  WELLNESS   HEALTH   YOUTH

 TNRD   911 EMERGENCY SERVICE IMPLEMENTED
 Logan Lake's 1st ever VOLUNTEER RECOGNITION EVENT established in honour of the International Year of the Volunteer
