UNIQUE TOURIST BOOTH OPENS

Most of you have at some point passed by, visited, or taken unexpected company to visit our unique tourist booth. Travelling through Canada and the U.S.A. many towns have very different tourist booth to attract visitors, I think Logan Lake has a very special attraction with the conversation of a shovel, to a tourist booth. Saturday morning June 6, marked the grand opening of Logan Lake's tourist booth, and information centre, in a 195 B. Bucyrus-Erie standard shovel.

The 727,000 pound shovel was donated to the district by Highland Valley Copper, and moved to the town in Nov. 1991. The inside of the shovel was removed and the walls, floor and the ceiling were refinished. A large window was installed to allow visitors to look and see the hoist, boom and shovel machinery.

The shovel is located beside the 235 ton Wabco Haul truck, which was also donated by HVC. Once inside the tourist centre, visitors experience a unique feeling of being inside a building, and at the same time become part of these massive earth movers.

At the official opening many dignitaries came from many other municipalities
to witness this unique event. Merritt's Mayor Clara Norgard,
Alderman Johndra Bastan from Lillooet,

MLA Harry Lali and his family, Isabel Gavin representing MP Nelson Riis and Poul Hanson and Dave McPhail representing HVC. A special thanks for generous donations were extended to Western Roofing, the Mine
and many other business's and individuals.

A reception followed in the Rec Centre upper lounge after the opening.

The Haulage truck was donated to the town on Feb. 2/90, by HVC. The plaque was unvieled May 18/91
